The maximum weight capacity of our adult wheelchairs is 265 lb. The HELIO KIDS wheelchair has a maximum weight capacity of 175 lb. We also have an HD (Heavy Duty) option available for the VELOCE, HELIO series and MOVE wheelchairs, raising the maximum weight capacity to 350 lb.
It has several advantages! First, carbon is both lightweight and incredibly strong. But that’s not all. Visit the Technology page for more information on carbon fiber’s many other advantages.
All three materials are excellent for building wheelchairs because they are light and strong.
Each material has a specific strength value, which is its strength divided by its density. Titanium and aluminum’s specific strength value is in the 200 kN.m/kg range while carbon fiber’s value is in the 2000 kN.m/kg range.
For this reason, carbon fiber is the optimal choice to reduce a wheelchair’s weight without compromising its strength.
The strength of a frame tube and the overall wheelchair will also depend on several variables like the size, diameter, wall thickness and the shape of the tube.
Small scratches and nicks can be sanded and painted over with paint or resin/varnish. Cracked or crushed tubes cannot be repaired, although this type of damage is extremely rare. All carbon fiber frames built by Motion Composites have surpassed RESNA/ANSI fatigue testing requirements by at least double the industry standard. If a tube is cracked or crushed, the frame will need to be replaced as per the warranty guidelines.
Carbon fiber components are used extensively in aircraft and satellites, which are exposed to temperatures that range from superheated to near absolute zero. Carbon fiber’s low thermal expansion properties make it ideal for extreme temperature changes.
We use two types of aluminum in our wheelchairs. For example, the HELIO A6 wheelchair gets its name from our use of 6061 aluminum. This alloy is often used to make airplanes and is known for its superior quality. HELIO A7 is made from 7005 aluminum alloy which is a proprietary aluminum called the AluLight that surpasses any other aluminum alloy used for making wheelchairs.
Motion Composites doesn’t sell parts or accessories directly because we’re a manufacturer. To get and/or replace parts, contact your authorized Motion Composites dealer. Visit our Providers page to find an authorized Motion Composites provider near you.
The maximum width of our adult wheelchairs is 22 in. and the maximum depth is 20 in. It’s not possible to order a wheelchair that is more than 22 in. wide.
Service frequency will depend on your use of the chair. That said, Motion Composites recommends the following checklist:

Yes, it’s possible to try a wheelchair. Contact your local authorized provider to arrange a trial. The provider will have their own demos or they can obtain demos from their local sales representative.
Motion Composites is proud to design and manufacture the lightest wheelchairs in their class.

VELOCE has a transport weight of only 5.1 kg (11 lb.) (without rear wheels)
HELIO C2 has a transport weight of only 5.4 kg (12 lb.) (without rear wheels and footrest)
HELIO A7 and MOVE have a transport weight of only 7.25 kg (16 lb.) (without rear wheels and footrest)

For the folding model you will find the serial number on a small plaque affixed to the inside of the left side-frame tubing at the back of the wheelchair.
For the rigid wheelchairs, you will find the serial number on a small plaque affixed to the camber tube which is the tube going from the center of the left wheel to the center of the right one.
Measure the width of your wheelchair across the seating surface from the outside edge of the side frame tubes. Depth is measured from the front of the back cane to the front of the seat sling.
