Holiday Gift Guide for the Disabled Community – 2024 Edition

The cold weather is approaching, all the stores are decorated with twinkling lights and Mariah Carey is finally defrosting, and “All I Want for Christmas” is starting to play everywhere! The holiday season is back!

The Holidays are the perfect moment to relive all our treasured family traditions: wearing ugly Christmas sweaters, drinking lots of hot chocolate, and the favorite of everyone, Holiday Shopping!!

We are more than ready to kick the holiday season with a bang. Every year, we play the role of Santa’s little helper, and help you get the best gifts for everyone on your list (including yourself).

For the little ones (and the young at heart)

Little People Play for All School playset

This is the perfect gift for toddlers to learn about diversity! As kids explore the different areas of this school, they'll discover fun activities and storytelling opportunities: from the classroom that flips from crafts time to snack time, to an art room and a garden to tend. And when it's time for recess, kids can place the figures on the wheelchair-accessible swing so everyone can enjoy a ride!

Little People Play celebrates diversity and friendship with this playset that is perfect for toddlers to strengthen their motor skills and develop their imagination.

Smart Home

Having a smart home can be a luxury for many, but for people with disabilities, it can help them accomplish much more in their day. Simple tasks can be performed using their smartphone or voice-activated home devices, which could help them become more independent.

With today's technological advances, the possibilities are endless. Smart home devices range from coffee machines to ovens, washing machines, thermostats, doorbells, and even door knobs. Before committing to any changes, carefully review which devices best fit your needs and ensure your internet can support them.

Garmin Technology Smart Watches

Tracking your health can bring important insights, like how your body reacts to physical exertion and heart health.

For wheelchair users to track their health, their smartwatches need a wheelchair mode, which, unfortunately, not all brands offer. However, there are some great options out there!

According to our research, the consensus is that the wheelchair mode on compatible Garmin devices is the best option for wheelchair users who want to track their health.

When wheelchair mode is enabled, your Garmin device tracks your movements as pushes rather than steps, and you can access wheelchair-based activities and challenges. Your fitness level is also estimated based on a combination of information you enter when you set up your device, including your age, sex, height, weight, and exercise habits.

Adaptive Jewelry

Jewelry can be tricky to put, especially for people with limited dexterity in their hands and fingers. But this does not mean you must say “goodbye” to wearing sparkly things!

Magnetic lobster clasps are a simple, practical, and inexpensive solution. This simple yet clever invention can transform almost any bracelet or necklace into an adaptive, easy-to-use jewelry item.

We found this one on Amazon, but there are many different materials and colors that can match any jewelry piece you want to adapt.

LapStacker

You might have seen this product on your social media this year. It’s THE product that all wheelchair communities had on their minds all summer!

LapStacker is the world's first and only retractable carry system for your wheelchair. LapStacker is a versatile, lightweight, easy-to-use, easy-to-install wheelchair attachment that allows you to carry anything, anywhere. It comes in two different models: LapStacker Flex, for manual rigid and folding wheelchairs, and LapStacker XD, suitable for power wheelchairs with a T-Track seating system.

LapStacker Flex is simple to install and features finger loops for those with reduced hand function, an ingenious magnetic buckle system, and is built with high-quality materials. The straps sit neatly by your side, ready when needed.

Our amazing brand ambassador, Cheryl Agelelli, tried it on her APEX C, and she loved it. Check her full review here.

While LapStacker is designed to fit as many wheelchairs as possible, due to the custom nature of wheelchairs and the large number of models, LapStacker recommends you check the quick fitting guide they have on their website first to ensure LapStacker will fit your chair. If in doubt, you can contact them before purchase.
